When I went down to Richmond in February for Natalie’s birthday, Tyler told me when she was getting ready, “Hey, I ordered a ring, I wanna do it when we do our anniversary pictures.” I was so busy trying to plan this huge moment immediately, I could barely focus for her birthday! I was BEYOND excited!! Tyler and I spoke every week trying to get this plan in motion and make this proposal everything Natalie could dream of. Natalie and I have been talking since last year about me photographing her anniversary session but our schedules were crazy and we could never get a date set. Scheduling this was actually comical, I was trying to figure out Tyler’s schedule and Natalie’s but trying to be totally low key and acting completely clueless. Yeah, that was extremely hard! We finally set a date and it was on! Tyler and I were going back and forth with locations, how and when he was going to do it, and figuring out the perfect moment for this. Meanwhile, Natalie was totally blinded as to what was being planned! We planned to do their session in Georgetown but with the holiday weekend + Cherry Blossoms in DC we knew it wouldn’t be as ideal. Instead, We planned to wander around Downtown Fredericksburg and go to Natalie + Tyler’s “secret spot” right on the Rappahannock River where there was a true and special meaning to both of them! It worked out better than I could have ever imagined.
When I arrived at the session, I seriously wanted to just run up to Natalie + Tyler and just hug the crap out of them! I had to catch myself because the proposal hasn’t happen yet! During the session, that is all that I could think about! Natalie could tell Tyler was a little tense/nervous and she could tell something was going on with me because I was “rusty” with my posing and running out of ideas quickly. (how could I not when I knew there was a proposal coming!!!) I told Tyler a few days before the session that when I say a key phrase that is when he should do it. Well, that key phrase was “Do you guys have anymore ideas you’d like to do?” Let’s leave it to Natalie to say “YEAH! LET’S DO THIS!” probably 5 more times after I said that! The look on Tyler’s face was PRICELESS!! He was ready to drop to one knee and pop the question. I won’t forget that evil eye ;)
A few minutes later, Tyler pulls out a handwritten letter from his pocket for Natalie to read. When she was done reading, she found her soulmate waiting for her on one knee! At that moment, all of us were a mix of emotions. A few tears were shed and I was shaking from excitement (you should have seen me trying to take a picture of the ring). I am so thankful I was there to capture this for my sweet friends! A huge congratulations to the newly engaged couple!
Natalie – I love you so much! I can’t tell you enough of how excited I am for you and Tyler <3
Tyler – WE DID IT!!!!! Thank you for reaching out to me about this special moment in yours and Natalie’s life! You were awesome and I had a blast planning this epic proposal with you!
